September 2010
In September 2010 the Kalisher Community Garden turned two years old. Where else to celebrate this important and joyful milestone than in the garden itself? The garden filled with Ethiopian immigrants from the absorption center and with some guests from the neighborhood. The children had special treats waiting for them: a drumming workshop and another workshop where they made decorations for Sukkah from recycled materials.

Since the celebration fell on the time between Yom Kippur and Sukkot one of the classes from the absorption center had prepared a ceremony with songs and readings related to the holidays. As part of the celebration Earth’s Promise gave some of the Ethiopian immigrants certificates of their excellent work in the garden.

We also spent some time looking back to the past year and watched a slide show with pictures from the garden: smiling faces, families working together, children playing, fruitful harvest… We finished the party by dancing to the night.

This event was organized in cooperation with the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel, the municipality of Be’er Sheva, JDC- Israel and the Ministry of Environmental Protection as part of a series of events in different community gardens.
