Composting
The Neighborhood Compost Network
Compost network was created by Earth’s Promise/Shvuat ha-Adamah and the Center for Neighborhood Sustainability in the spring 2010. At the moment there are 15 communal composters in the network. Our vision is to widen the network to all the neighborhoods and to cooperate with restaurants, schools and youth movements.
The idea of the network is that individuals who are already composting share their composters with other people who are interested in composting but don’t have the means or knowledge to compost on their own. For every composter in the network there is someone in charge. The “compost master” takes care of the composter and e.g. decides on how many people can join and bring their organic waste to that particular composter and what organic waste is composted.
So the network offers the possibility of composting for those who would otherwise lack it. If you are one of them, would like to compost, but don’t have the means, all you need to do is to choose the composter that is closest to you, contact the person responsible for it and start composting. To see the location of the composters as well as the contact information of the “compost masters”, clik here Compost Network-Maps.
If you are interested to open a compost collection point in your neighborhood, please contact our coordinator Ziv on ziv.feldesh(a)gmail.com
Compost Stand
The compost stand of Earth’s Promise was created in 2009 in order to raise awareness about composting. Earth’s Promise teaches about composting through the stand in different environmental events.
The interactive stand invites the public to think and to test their knowledge about composting. Through personal instruction, posters, and examples of organic and non organic waste the stand teaches among other things how to make compost and why it’s important.
