The Community Sewing Project
One of the projects of the first years of Earth’s Promise/Shvuat ha-Adamah in Be’er Sheva’s Gimmel neighborhood was the community sewing project. Within the project, by providing vocational training and employment opportunities, single, new immigrant mothers are taught and empowered to be self-supportive.
Designed as a women’s educational and business cooperative, The Community Sewing Project trains single mothers how to use modern sewing equipment. The project also preserves natural resources by reducing unnecessary consumption and strengthens the social fabric in the community – achieving the triumvirate of sustainability – social, environmental, and economic.
The work of Earth’s Promise within this project ended successfully in September 2010. The project started and established by Earth’s Promise is working well and its maintenance is now continued by the Kalisher Absorption Center.
